Itinerary Details - Day by Day

DAY 1: Arrival in Lhasa (3590 meters)

You will be warmly greeted at the station or airport by the local guide, and then be escorted to your reserved hotel in Lhasa. After your arrival at the hotel, you are free for the day to explore the local area and acclimate yourself to the weather and high altitude of Lhasa. In the evening, you can go on self-paced exploration around the Barkhor Sreet.


DAY 2: Lhasa Tour –Jokhang Temple, Potala Palace

The second-day tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace, which is the winter palace of the Dalai Lama. The most valuable collections of this palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

Then after lunch, tourists head to Jokhang temple, the holiest of all the temples in Tibet. Inside the temple, you will find the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you will see pilgrims making prostrating in front of the temple.


DAY 3: Lhasa Tour – Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery

In the morning hours, you will visit Drepung monastery, which is one of the most popular “Great three” monasteries of Tibet. It was founded by Jamyang Choge, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples in 1416. Inside the monastery, you can visit the biggest monastery kitchen and enjoy Buddhist Sculpture Carving workshop near Drepung.

In the afternoon, you will visit Sera Monastery, which is also one of the most popular “Great three” monasteries of Tibet. The hot attraction is the Monks debate during the afternoon. In addition, you can take a tour of Tibetan religious scripture printing house, and see three sand Mandalas and colorful Rock Painting of Buddha inside the monastery. Also, take a stroll around the surrounding old quarters.

DAY 4: Lhasa- Shigatse via Gyantse

In the early morning hours, drive from Lhasa to Shigatse. On the way, drive over the Kamba-la pass, and you will have a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso Lake. Beautiful looking snow-capped mountains surround the lake, and in the distance, you can have breathtaking views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar, the highest mountain near Lhasa.

After arriving in Gyantse, you will visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery, the largest Buddhist stupa in Gyantse, and the Gyantse Kumbum, which is a nine-tier building with 108 gates and 32 meter high. Also, enjoy the Far view of Gyangtse Fortress.

Then, tour around Tashi Lhunpo, and witness the most giant gilded statue of Future Buddha in Tibet.

Stay overnight in Shigatse.

DAY 5: Shigatse to Everest Base Camp

Then, you will leave Shigatse city, and travel west to Shelkar, the gateway to Mount Everest. Drive along the Gyatso La pass (5220 meters) to Everest Base Camp. At Shelkar you will enjoy two main attractions at the Shekar Dzong and Shelkar Chode Monastery. Travel on from Shelkar over the Pang La Pass and get closer to gaze at the Mt. Everest peak. Then, visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world with nuns and monks living together. Travel on to the tourist Everest Base Camp for the majestic view of the Mt. Everest.

DAY 6: Everest Base Camp and Return to Shigatse

In the morning, do not miss on the beautiful sunrise of Everest Peak. Finally, you will be driven back to Shigatse.
